Translation:

Agli subah, Tajir ne namak ke bajaye gadhe par rooi ke bore laad diye.

Gadhe ko farq mehsoos na hua.

Woh hamesha ki tarah apna safar shuru kar gaye.

English:

The next morning, the merchant loaded the donkey with sacks of cotton instead of salt.

The donkey didn’t notice the difference.

They began their journey as usual.

Translation:

Jab woh darya par pohnchay, to gadhe ne phir se phisalnay ka naatak kiya aur gir gaya.

Us ne socha ke us ka chalaki wala mansooba pehlay ki tarah kaam karega.

Lekin is baar, ek ghair mutawaqqa baat ho gayi!

English:

When they got to the river, the donkey pretended that he had slipped and fallen again.

He thought his trick would work just like before.

This time, however, something unexpected happened!

Translation:

Jab gadha utha, to rooi ke bore paani mein bheeg chukay thay.

Halka honay ke bajaye, bojh aur bhi zyada bhaari ho gaya.

Gadha chalne me tadap raha tha.

English:

When the donkey stood up, the cotton sacks were soaked with water.

Instead of getting lighter, the load became much heavier.

The donkey struggled to walk.

Translation:

Gadhe ko ehsas hua ke us ka mansooba ulta par gaya hai.

Usey susti or taajir ko dhokah dena bura laga.

Wah janta tha kah is ne bahut badi ghalati ki hay.

English:

The donkey realized his plan had backfired.

He felt bad for being lazy and tricking the merchant.

He knew he had made a big mistake.
