لم يكن يعلم أن القرد كان يخدعه.

سبح التمساح عائدًا والقرد على ظهره.

Translation:

Istamaʿa al-timsāḥ ilā al-qird wa-wāfaqa ʿalā al-ʿawda ilā al-shajarah.

Lam yakun yaʿlam anna al-qird kāna yakhdaʿuh.

Sabaḥa al-timsāḥ ʿāʾidan wa-al-qird ʿalā ẓahrih.

English:

The crocodile listened to the monkey and agreed to go back to the tree.

He didn’t know the monkey was tricking him.

The crocodile swam back with the monkey on its back.

عندما وصلا إلى الشجرة، قفز القرد إلى بر الأمان.

ثم أوضح له أن القرود لا تحمل قلوبها خارج أجسامها.

Translation:

ʿIndamā waṣalā ilā al-shajarah, qafaza al-qird ilā barr al-amān.

Ḍaḥika ʿalā al-timsāḥ.

Thumma awḍaḥa lahū anna al-qurūd lā taḥmil qulūbahā khārij ajṣāmihā.

English:

When they reached the tree, the monkey leaped to safety.

He laughed at the crocodile.

Then he explained that monkeys don’t carry their hearts outside their bodies.

Shaʿara al-timsāḥ bil-iḥrāj wa-al-khajal.

Adraka anna al-qird qad khadaʿah.

Laqad tumma khidāʿuh bi-dhakāʾ al-qird.

English:

The crocodile felt embarrassed and ashamed.

He realized that the monkey had tricked him.

He had been fooled by the monkey’s cleverness.

Translation:

Qāla al-qird lil-timsāḥ an yarḥal wa-allā yaʿūd abadan.

Qāla inna al-aṣdiqāʾ lā yuʾdhūna baʿḍahum al-baʿḍ.

Sabaḥa al-timsāḥ mubtaʿidan, yashʿur bil-khajal min afʿālih.

English:

The monkey told the crocodile to leave and never return.

He said that friends shouldn’t hurt each other.

The crocodile swam away, feeling ashamed of his actions.
