Lesson

Title: Percentile Range

Grade: 9-a Lesson: S2-L6

Explanation: Hello students, let us learn a new topic in statistics today with definitions, concepts, examples, and worksheets included.

Lesson:

Definition: Measures of Position:

  • These measures are used to describe the position of a value with respect to the rest of the values of the data set.

  • To compute quartiles and percentiles, but not to compute z-scores, the data must be sorted by value.

1

Explanation: The three most commonly used measures of position are

  • Quartiles

  • Percentiles and

  • Standardized scores (z-scores).

Definition: Percentile:

  • Percentiles are used to understand and interpret data. They indicate the values below which a certain percentage of the data in a data set is found.

Percentile Range :

  • The percentile formula is used when we need to compare the exact values or numbers over the other numbers from the given data i.e. the accuracy of the number

  • The percentile of x is the ratio of the number of values below n to the total number of values multiplied by 100

2

Explanation:

steps for calculating Percentile Range:

  1. Arrange the data in ascending order.

  2. Count the Total number of values in the data set and represent it as 'N'.

  3. Substitute the given Ordinal rank of value as 'n'.

  4. Find the percentile by substituting the values in the formula.
