Lesson

Title: Mode for grouped data

Grade: 9-a Lesson: S1-L6

Explanation: Hello students, let us learn a new topic in statistics today with definitions, concepts, examples, and worksheets included.

Lesson:

Definition: Measures of central tendency

  • Measures of central tendency determine the central point of a data set or the point around which all the measurements are scattered.

1

Explanation: The two main measures of central tendency are the mean and the median, mode

Definition: Mode

  • The mode is a value that occurs the maximum number of times in the given data set.

  • In other words, the maximum number of repeated values in the given data set is called mode.

Where,

l is lower limit of the modal class,

\$f_1\$ is frequency of the modal class,

\$f_0\$ is frequency of the preceding class of modal class,

\$f_2\$ is frequency of the succeeding class of modal class,

h is size of the class interval.

2

Explanation: Steps for calculating mode for grouped data:

  • Find the maximum class frequency

  • Finding Modal class

  • Calculating the mode
