Example

Title: Median for grouped data

Grade: 9-a Lesson: S1-L5

Explanation: The best way to understand statistics is by looking at some examples. Take turns and read each example for easy understanding.

Examples:

Find out the median for the given observations 1

Step 1a

Prepare the cumulative frequency and finding median class

Explanation: Now add the frequency to every preceding frequency

i.e, \$2, 2+12=14, 14+8=22 ,22+22=44\$.

\$n=44\$

Step 1b

Finding median class

Explanation: \$n/2 = 44/2 = 22\$

i.e, Median class = 14-18

Step 1c

Calculating Median

Explanation: \$Median = l + (n/2 -cf)/f × h\$

Here l = 14, f = 22 ,cf = 8 , h = 4

\$Median = 14 + (44/2 -8)/22 × 4\$

\$= 14 + (22-8)/22 × 4\$

\$= 14 + 14/22 × 4\$

\$= 14 + 0.63 × 4\$

\$Median = 16.54\$
