Title: Measures of central tendency-Median

Grade: 9-a Lesson: S1-L2

Explanation: Hello students, let us learn a new topic in statistics today with definitions, concepts, examples, and worksheets included.

Lesson:

Definition: Measures of central tendency

  • Measures of central tendency determine the central point of a data set or the point around which all the measurements are scattered.

1

Explanation: The three main measures of central tendency are the mean and the median, mode

Definition: Median

  • The median is the value separating the higher half of a data sample, a population, or a probability distribution, from the lower half.

  • In simple terms, it may be thought of as the "middle" value of a data set.

2

Explanation: Steps for calculating median:

  1. Arrange the data in ascending order

  2. Find out the total number of observations

  3. If there are odd number of observations, apply case 1 formula

  4. If there are even set of observations ,apply case 2 formula.
