Example

Title: Subtraction

Grade: 2-a Lesson: S1-L6

Explanation: The best way to understand subtraction is by looking at some examples. Take turns and read each example for easy understanding.

Examples:

Step 1a

Subtract 235 from 28

  • Start subtracting the digits at ones place.

  • We can see that 8 is greater than 5.

  • So, we will borrow 1 from the tens column which will make it 15.

  • Now, 15 - 8 = 7 ones.

1a

.

Explanation: Arrange the numbers according to their place values.
we can see that 5 is smaller than 8. We can’t subtract 5 from 8.So, we borrow 1 from the tens column and get 15 ones in the ones column. Now, we can easily 15 - 8 = 7.

Step 1b

  • After giving 1 to the ones column in the previous step, becomes 2.

  • Now, let us subtract the digits at the tens place 2 - 2 = 0.

1b

.

Explanation: * In the next step, we move to subtract the digits at the ten’s place.
* Please note that the digit at the ten’s place is now 2 , instead of the 3.
* Now,subtract 2 from 2 and hence we get 0 as the answer at the ten’s place.

Step 1c

  • Now, subtract the digits on the hundreds place, i.e., 2 - 0 = 0 hundreds.

Therefore the difference between the two numbers is:
235 - 28 = 207.

1c

.

Explanation: Now, subtract the digits on the hundreds place, i.e., 2 - 0 = 2 hundreds.

Hence,235 - 28 = 207.
