Example

Title: Subtraction

Grade: 2-a Lesson: S1-L5

Explanation: The best way to understand subtraction is by looking at some examples. Take turns and read each example for easy understanding.

Examples:

Step 1a

Ssubtract 215 from 37

  • Start subtracting the digits at ones place.

  • We can see that 5 is greater than 7. So, we will borrow 1 from the tens column which will make it 15. Now, 15 - 7 = 8 ones.

1a

.

Explanation: Arrange the numbers according to their place values.
we can see that 5 is smaller than 7. We can’t subtract 5 from 7.So, we borrow 1 from the tens column and get 15 ones in the ones column. Now, we can easily 15 - 7 = 8.

Step 1b

  • After giving 1 to the ones column in the previous step, becomes 0.

  • To subtract the digits on the tens place, i.e., (0 - 3) we will borrow 1 from the hundreds column. This will make it 10.

  • So, 10 - 3 = 7 tens.

1b

.

Explanation: After giving 1 to the one’s column in the previous step, 1 becomes 0. Now, let us subtract the digits at the tens place (0 - 3).we will borrow 1 from the hundreds column. This will make it 10.
So, 10 - 3 = 7 tens.

Step 1c

  • Now, let us subtract the digits at the hundreds place. After giving 1 to the tens column, we have 1.

  • So, 1 - 0 = 1.

Therefore, the difference between the two given numbers is 215 - 37 = 178.

1c

.

Explanation: Now, let us subtract the digits at the hundreds place. After giving 1 to the tens column, we have 1.
So, 1 - 0 = 1.

Hence, the difference between 215 and 37 is 178.
