Title: Probability (coins)

Grade: 9-a Lesson: S3-L2

Explanation: Hello students, let us learn a new topic in statistics today with definitions, concepts, examples, and worksheets included.

Lesson:

Definition: Probability:

  • Probability in Statistics expresses the chance of an incident occurring. The value of probability ranges from zero to one.

  • It is used to predict the outcomes for the tossing of coins, rolling of dice, or drawing a card from a pack of playing cards.

1

Explanation:

Probability is classified into two types:

1.Theoretical probability: This is based on what is expected to happen in an experiment, without actually conducting it.

2.Experimental probability: It is based on the data which is obtained after an experiment is carried out.

Definition: Formula of probability:

  • The probability of an event can be calculated by probability formula by simply dividing the favorable number of outcomes by the total number of possible outcomes.

  • The value of the probability of an event or experiment to happen can lie between \$0 and 1\$ because the favorable number of outcomes can never cross the total number of outcomes.

2

Explanation:

Terms related to probability :

Experiment: An activity whose outcomes may be favourable or unfavourable but are not known is an experiment.

Trial: Various attempts in the process of experiment.

Event: A trial with well-defined outcome.

Outcome: It is the result of a event or experiment.
