Title: Decimal Equivalent Fraction

Grade: 8-a Lesson: S2-L4

Explanation: Hello Students, time to learn definitions. Let us take turns and read definitions and explain the pictures. Try to remember or memorize the definitions. Pay special attention to the pictures and communicate in your own words.

Lesson:

Definition: Decimal Number

Decimals are one of the types of numbers, which has a whole number and the fractional part separated by a decimal point.

The dot present between the whole number and fractions part is called the decimal point.

1

.

Explanation: 154.3 is a decimal number. Here 154 is a whole number part, and 3 is the fractional part.

Definition: Order of Operations

The order of operations in math, commonly known as PEMDAS in the US, dictates the proper sequence for solving equations: Parentheses, Exponents, Multiplication, Division, Addition, and Subtraction.

2

.

Explanation: \$15 \times 3/4 \div 3/8\$ In the above equation, first, we perform the multiply operation \$15 \times 3/4 = 45/4\$ and then divide \$45/4 \div 3/8 = 30\$ and then convert decimal number \$30/1 = 30.0\$.

Tip PEMDAS

  • PEMDAS rule states that the order of operation starts with the parentheses first or the calculation enclosed in brackets.

  • Then the procedure is performed on exponents(degree or square roots), and later we do operations on multiplication & division and, at last, addition and subtraction.
