Title: Multiplications

Grade: 2-a Lesson: S3-L8

Explanation: The best way to understand multiplications is by looking at some examples. Take turns and read each example for easy understanding.

Examples:

Step: 1a

Find the product of 9 x 19

Arrange the numbers is vertically.

1a

.

Explanation: Arrange the numbers in multiplication form.

Step: 1b

  • First multiply the digit at the ones place by 9.

  • 9 × 9 = 81 = 8tens + 1ones

Write 1 in the ones column and carry over 8 to the tens column.

1b

.

Explanation: Multiplication from the extreme right and then work our way to the left. Now, 9 times 9 gives us 81.
we will regroup 81 as 8 tens and 1 ones. So, the 1 stays down in the ones place while the 8 is carried over to the top in the tens place.

Step: 1c

  • Now multiply the digit at the tens place by 9.

  • 1 × 9 = 9 tens
    Now, 9 + 8 (carry over) = 17 tens.

Thus 19 x 9 = 171.

1c

.

Explanation: Now, we move to the next column of tens and multiply 1 by 9 in the tens place. 1 times 9 gives us 9 tens and along with that, we will add the 9 tens on the top. That gives us 17 tens.

Hence, 19 x 9 = 171.
