Title: Multiplications

Grade: 2-a Lesson: S3-L7

Explanation: The best way to understand multiplications is by looking at some examples. Take turns and read each example for easy understanding.

Examples:

Step: 1a

Find the product of 8 x 18

Arrange the numbers is vertically.

1a

.

Explanation: Arrange the numbers in multiplication form.

Step: 1b

  • First multiply the digit at the ones place by 8.

  • 8 × 8 = 64 = 6tens + 4ones

Write 4 in the ones column and carry over 6 to the tens column.

1b

.

Explanation: Multiplication from the extreme right and then work our way to the left. Now, 8 times 8 gives us 64.
we will regroup 64 as 6 tens and 4 ones. So, the 4 stays down in the ones place while the 6 is carried over to the top in the tens place.

Step: 1c

  • Now multiply the digit at the tens place by 8.

  • 1 × 8 = 8 tens
    Now, 8 + 6 (carry over) = 14 tens.

Thus 18 x 8 = 144.

1c

.

Explanation: Now, we move to the next column of tens and multiply 1 by 8 in the tens place. 1 times 8 gives us 8 tens and along with that, we will add the 8 tens on the top. That gives us 14 tens.

Hence, 18 x 8 = 144.
