Title: Multiplications

Grade: 2-a Lesson: S3-L4

Explanation: The best way to understand multiplications is by looking at some examples. Take turns and read each example for easy understanding.

Examples:

Step: 1a

Find the product of 15 x 5

Arrange the numbers is vertically.

1a

.

Explanation: Arrange the numbers in multiplication form.

Step: 1b

  • First multiply the digit at the ones place by 5.

  • 5 × 5 = 25 = 2 tens + 5 ones

Write 5 in the ones column and carry over 2 to the tens column.

1b

.

Explanation: Multiplication from the extreme right and then work our way to the left. Now, 5 times 5 gives us 25.
we will regroup 25 as 2 tens and 5 ones. So, the 5 stays down in the ones place while the 2 is carried over to the top in the tens place.

Step: 1c

  • Now multiply the digit at the tens place by 5.

  • 1 × 5 = 5 tens

  • Now, 2 + 5 (carry over) = 7 tens.

Thus 15 x 5 = 75.

1c

.

Explanation: Now, we move to the next column of tens and multiply 5 by 1 in the tens place. 1 times 5 gives us 5 tens, and along with that, we will add the 2 tens on the top. That gives us 7 tens.

Hence, 15 x 5 = 75.
