Title: Multiplications

Grade: 2-a Lesson: S3-L3

Explanation: The best way to understand multiplications is by looking at some examples. Take turns and read each example for easy understanding.

Examples:

Step: 1a

Find the product of 14 x 4

Arrange the numbers is vertically.

1a

.

Explanation: Arrange the numbers in multiplication form.

Step: 1b

  • First multiply the digit at the ones place by 4.

  • 4 × 4 = 16 = 1 ten + 6 ones

Write 6 in the ones column and carry over 1 to the tens column.

1b

.

Explanation: Multiplication from the extreme right and then work our way to the left. Now, 4 times 4 gives us 16.
we will regroup 16 as 1 tens and 6 ones. So, the 6 stays down in the ones place while the 1 is carried over to the top in the tens place.

Step: 1c

  • Now multiply the digit at the tens place by 3.

  • 1 × 4 = 4 tens

  • Now, 1 + 4 (carry over) = 5 tens.

Thus 14 x 4 = 56.

1c

.

Explanation: Now, we move to the next column of tens and multiply 1 by 4 in the tens place. 1 times 4 gives us 4 tens, and along with that, we will add the 1 tens on the top. That gives us 5 tens.

Hence, 14 x 4 = 56.
