Definition: Fraction

A fraction represents a numerical value, which defines the parts of a whole.

It represents the equal parts of the whole. A fraction has two parts, namely numerator and denominator. The number on the top is called the numerator, and the number on the bottom is called the denominator.

Definition: Unlike Fraction Addition

Fractions that have unequal denominators are known as unlike fractions.

The two fractions stem from \$p/q\$ and \$r/s\$, and their denominators q and s are equal (i.e.,q ≠ s), so they are unlike fractions.

Unlike fractions, make the denominators the same first and then add them.
