Example

Title: Division

Grade: 4-a Lesson: S2-L2

Explanation: The best way to understand divisions is by looking at some examples. Take turns and read each example for easy understanding.

Examples:

Divide 666 ÷ 18

Step 1a

Divide 549 by 9

  • Draw the division symbol and write divisor 18 is on left side and dividend 666 closed under this symbol.

1a

.

Explanation: Arrange the numbers in division form.

Step 1b

  • 66 is divisible by 18 but since, 18 × 3 = 54. we go for it. subtract 66 - 54 = 12 and write 3 in Quotient.

1b

.

Explanation: Here, the first digit of the dividend is 64, 64 is divisible by 16. Subtract 64 - 64 = 0 and write quotient is 4.

Step 1c

  • Now, bring down the next value to 6.

  • The number to be considered now is 126.

  • 126 is not divisible by 18 but since 18 × 7 = 126, subtract 126 - 126 = 0,and write 7 in the Quotient.

  • Therefore 18 ÷ 7 = 120.

1c

.

Explanation: In this step, bring down the next value, 6, and write it next to 126. Since 126 is divisible by 18, we divide 126 by 18 to get 0 and then subtract 126 from 126, resulting in 0. Hence, 126 divided by 18 is 0.
