Example

Title: Division

Grade: 2-a Lesson: S4-L5

Explanation: The best way to understand divisions is by looking at some examples. Take turns and read each example for easy understanding.

Examples:

Step 1a

Divide 370 by 5

Draw the division symbol ⟌ and write divisor (5) on its left side and dividend (370) enclosed under this symbol.

1a

.

Explanation: Arrange the numbers in division form:

Step 1b

  • Since the first digit of the dividend is less than the divisor (3 < 5), bring down the next digit of the dividend.

  • New dividend is 37.

  • 37 > 5 but 37 is not divisible by 5, so we look for the number just less than 37 in the table of 5. + * We know that 5 x 7 = 35 which is less than 37.

  • Write quotient 7 and subtract 37 - 35 = 2.

1b

.

Explanation: Here, the first digit of the dividend is 3, but 3 < 5 put down the next digit of the dividend and place it beside 7.
New dividend is 37.
37 is not divisible by 5, We know that 5 x 7 = 35 which is less than 37.
Write quotient 7 and subtract 37 - 35 = 2.

Step 1c

  • In this step, bring down 0.The number to be considered now is 20.

  • Since 20 is divisible by 5, but we know that 5 x 4 = 20, so, we take 4.

  • Write 4 in the quotient and subtract 20 - 20 = 0.

Therefore quotient is 74 and remainder is 0.

1c

.

Explanation: Here, the third digit of the dividend is 0,now new dividend is 20.
20 is divisible by 5,We know that 5 x 4 = 20.
Write 4 in the quotient.

Hence,quotient is 75 and remainder is 0.
