Example

Title: Division

Grade: 2-a Lesson: S4-L3

Explanation: The best way to understand divisions is by looking at some examples. Take turns and read each example for easy understanding.

Examples:

Step 1a

Divide 312 by 7

Draw the division symbol ⟌ and write divisor (7) on its left side and dividend (312) enclosed under this symbol.

1a

.

Explanation: Arrange the numbers in division form:

Step 1b

  • Since the first digit of the dividend is less than the divisor (3 < 7), bring down the next digit of the dividend.

  • New dividend is 31.

  • 31 > 7 but 31 is not divisible by 7, so we look for the number just less than 31 in the table of 7. + * We know that 7 x 4 = 28 which is less than 31.

  • Write quotient 4 and subtract 31 - 28 = 3.

1b

.

Explanation: Here, the first digit of the dividend is 3, but 3 < 7 put down the next digit of the dividend and place it beside 1.
New dividend is 31.
31 is not divisible by 7, We know that 7 x 4 = 28 which is less than 31.
Write quotient 4 and subtract 31 - 28 = 3.

Step 1c

  • In this step, bring down 2.The number to be considered now is 32.

  • Since 72 is not divisible by 7, but we know that 7 x 4 = 28, so, we take 4.

  • Write 4 in the quotient and subtract 32 - 28 = 4.

  • Now 4 < 7.

Therefore quotient is 44 and remainder is 4.

1c

.

Explanation: Here, the third digit of the dividend is 2,now new dividend is 32.
32 is not divisible by 7,We know that 7 x 4 = 28.
Write 4 in the quotient.
Now 4 < 7.

Hence,quotient is 44 and remainder is 4.
