Example

Title: Division

Grade: 2-a Lesson: S4-L1

Explanation: The best way to understand divisions is by looking at some examples. Take turns and read each example for easy understanding.

Examples:

Step 1a

Divide 260 by 6

Draw the division symbol ⟌ and write divisor (6) on its left side and dividend (260) enclosed under this symbol.

1a

.

Explanation: Arrange the numbers in division form:

Step 1b

  • Since the first digit of the dividend is less than the divisor (2 < 6), bring down the next digit of the dividend.

  • New dividend is 26.

  • 26 > 6 but 26 is not divisible by 6, so we look for the number just less than 36 in the table of 9. + * We know that 6 x 4 = 24 which is less than 26.

  • Write quotient 4 and subtract 26 - 24 = 2.

1b

.

Explanation: Here, the first digit of the dividend is 2, but 2 < 6 put down the next digit of the dividend and place it beside 6.
New dividend is 26.
26 is not divisible by 6, We know that 6 x 4 = 24 which is less than 26.
Write quotient 4 and subtract 26 - 24 = 2.

Step 1c

  • In this step, bring down 0.The number to be considered now is 20.

  • Since 20 is not divisible by 6, but we know that 6 x 3 = 18, so, we take 3.

  • Write 3 in the quotient and subtract 20 - 18 = 2.

  • Now 2 < 6.

Therefore quotient is 43 and remainder is 2.

1c

.

Explanation: Here, the third digit of the dividend is 0,now new dividend is 20.
20 is not divisible by 6,We know that 6 x 3 = 18 which is less than 20.
Write 3 in the quotient.Now 2 < 6.

Hence,quotient is 43 and remainder is 2.
