Example

Title: Division

Grade: 2-a Lesson: S3-L7

Explanation: The best way to understand divisions is by looking at some examples. Take turns and read each example for easy understanding.

Examples:

Step 1a

Divide 130 by 6.

Draw the division symbol ⟌ and write divisor (6) on its left side and dividend (130) enclosed under this symbol.

1a

.

Explanation: Arrange the numbers in division form:

Step 1b

  • Since the first digit of the dividend is less than the divisor (1 < 6), bring down the next digit of the dividend.

  • New dividend is 13.13 > 6 but 13 is not divisible by 6, so we look for the number just less than 28 in the table of 6. We know that 6 x 2= 12 which is less than 13.

  • Write quotient 2 and subtract 13 - 12 = 1.

1b

.

Explanation: Here, the first digit of the dividend is 1, but 1 < 6 put down the next digit of the dividend and place it beside 1. New dividend is 13.
13 is not divisible by 6, so we look for the number just less than 13. We know that 6 x 2 = 12 which is less than 13.
Write quotient 2 and subtract 13 - 12 = 1.

Step 1c

  • In this step, bring down 0.The number to be considered now is 0.

  • Since 10 is not divisible by 6, but we know that 6 x 1 = 6, so, we take 1.

  • Write 1 in the quotient and subtract 10 - 6 = 4. Now 4 < 6.

Therefore quotient is 21 and remainder is 4.

1c

.

Explanation: Here, the third digit of the dividend is 0,now new dividend is 10.
10 is not divisible by 6,We know that 6 x 1= 6, which is less than 10.
Write 1 in the quotient .Now 4 < 6.

Hence,quotient is 21 and remainder is 4.
