Example

Title: Division

Grade: 2-a Lesson: S3-L4

Explanation: The best way to understand divisions is by looking at some examples. Take turns and read each example for easy understanding.

Examples:

Step 1a

Divide 272 by 4

Draw the division symbol ⟌ and write divisor (4) on its left side and dividend (272) enclosed under this symbol.

1a

.

Explanation: Arrange the numbers in division form:

Step 1b

  • Since the first digit of the dividend is less than the divisor (2 < 4), bring down the next digit of the dividend.

  • New dividend is 27.27 > 4 but 27 is not divisible by 4, so we look for the number just less than 27 in the table of 4. We know that 4 x 6= 24 which is less than 27.

  • Write quotient 6 and subtract 27 - 24 = 3.

1b

.

Explanation: Here, the first digit of the dividend is 2, but 2 < 4 put down the next digit of the dividend and place it beside 2. New dividend is 27.
13 is not divisible by 7, so we look for the number just less than 27. We know that 4 x 6= 24 which is less than 27.
Write quotient 6 and subtract 27 - 24 = 3.

Step 1c

  • In this step, bring down 2.The number to be considered now is 32.

  • Since 32 is divisible by 4 but we know that 4 x 8 = 32.

  • Write 8 in the quotient and subtract 32 - 32 = 0.

Therefore quotient is 68 and remainder is 0.

1c

.

Explanation: Here, the third digit of the dividend is 2,now new dividend is 32.
32 is divisible by 4,We know that 4 x 8 = 32.
Write 8 in the quotient.

Hence,quotient is 68 and remainder is 0.
