Examples:

Step 1a

Divide 88 ÷ 7

  • Draw the division symbol and write divisor 7 is on left side and dividend 88 enclosed under this symbol

1a

.

Explanation: Arrange the numbers in division form

Step 1b

  • 8 is not divisible by 7 but since, 1 × 7 = 7.we go for it.

  • Subtract 8 - 7 = 1 and write 1 in quotient.

1b

.

Explanation: Here, the first digit of the dividend is 8, 8 is not divisible by 7. Subtract 8 - 7 = 1 and write quotient is 1.

Step 1c

  • Bring down the next value 8.Here the tens place in 1 and the ones place is 8 now the number 18.

  • Therefore the quotient = 12. and the remainder is 4.

1c

.

Explanation: 18 is not divisible by 7. But since, 2 × 7 = 14. we go for it. Subtract 18 - 14 = 4.and write 2 in quotient.
