Step 1b

  • 8 is not divisible by 5 but since, 1 × 5 = 5. we go for it.

  • Subtract 8 - 5 = 3 and write 1 in quotient.

Explanation: Here, the first digit of the dividend is 8, 8 is not divisible by 5. Subtract 8 - 5 = 3 and write quotient is 1.

Step 1c

  • Bring down the next value 7.Here the tens place in 3 and the ones place is 7 now the number 37.

  • Therefore the quotient = 17. and the remainder is 2.
