Title: Determine the value of algebraic expression

Grade: 7-a Lesson: S2-L8

Explanation: The best way to understand algebra is by looking at some examples. Take turns and read each example for easy understanding.

Examples:

1. Determine the value of expression \$sqrt(i^2 + 150)\$ when i = 10.

Step 1a

Given expression.

Explanation: Given expression \$sqrt(i^2 + 150)\$ is an algebraic expression in variable i and value of i = 10.

Step 1b

Substitute the value of variable

Explanation: Substitute the value of variable i = 10 in the expression.

\$sqrt(i^2 + 150)\$

\$=> sqrt((10)^2 + 150)\$

Step 1c

Perform the opreartions among the terms to determine the value of expression.

Explanation: Perform operations among the terms

\$=> sqrt((100 + 150)\$

\$=> sqrt(250)\$

\$=> sqrt(25 times 10) \$

\$=> sqrt(25) times sqrt(10) \$

\$=> 5 times sqrt(10) \$

\$=> 5sqrt(10) \$
