Grade: 7-a Lesson: S2-L5

Explanation: The best way to understand algebra is by looking at some examples. Take turns and read each example for easy understanding.

Examples:

1. Determine the value of expression \$sqrt(b^2) - 1\$ when b = 9.

Step 1a

Given expression.

Explanation: Given expression \$sqrt(b^2) - 1\$ is an algebraic expression in variable b and value of b = 9.

Step 1b

Substitute the value of variable

Explanation: Substitute the value of variable b = 9 in the expression.

\$sqrt(b^2) - 1\$

\$=> sqrt(9^2) - 1\$

Step 1c

Perform the opreartions among the terms to determine the value of expression.

Explanation: Perform operations among the terms

\$=> sqrt(9^2) - 1\$

\$=> 9 - 1\$

\$=> 8 \$
