Title: Determine the value of algebraic expression

Grade: 7-a Lesson: S2-L2

Explanation: The best way to understand algebra is by looking at some examples. Take turns and read each example for easy understanding.

Examples:

1. Determine the value of expression \$(121n^2)/11 + 11\$ when n = 1.

Step 1a

Given expression.

Explanation: Given expression \$(121n^2)/11 + 11\$ is an algebraic expression in variable n and value of n = 1.

Step 1b

Substitute the value of variable

Explanation: Substitute the value of variable n = 1 in the expression.

\$(121n^2)/11 + 11\$

\$=> (121(1)^2)/11 + 11\$

Step 1c

Perform the opreartions among the terms to determine the value of expression.

Explanation: Perform operations among the terms

\$=> (121(1)^2)/11 + 11\$

\$=> (121(1))/11 + 11\$

\$=> 121/11 + 11\$

\$=> (121 + 121)/11 \$

\$=> (242)/11 \$

Step 1d

Convert the fraction into it’s lowest form.

Explanation: Divide numerator and denominator with 2 (or) do cancellation

\$=> cancel(242)^(22)/cancel11^1\$

\$=> 22/1\$

\$=> 22\$
