Example

Title: Find the variable value in the equation

Grade: 7-a Lesson: S1-L5

Explanation: The best way to understand algebra is by looking at some examples. Take turns and read each example for easy understanding.

Examples:

1. Find the value of 'k' in \$1/4(9k + 1) = 2(k + 4)\$.

Step 1a

Given equation is that, \$1/4(9k + 1) = 2(k + 4)\$.

Explanation: Given equation is that, \$1/4(9k + 1) = 2(k + 4)\$.

It is a linear equation with one variable in "k".

Step 1b

Move the like terms to one side and solve for k.

Explanation: Move the like terms to one side of the equation and perform operations among them.

i.e, move constant terms to one side, and then solve for k.

\$1/4(9k + 1) = 2(k + 4)\$
⇒ \$(9k + 1)/4 = 2k + 8\$
⇒ \$9k + 1 = (2k + 8)4\$
⇒ \$9k + 1 = 8k + 32\$
⇒ \$9k - 8k = 32 - 1\$
⇒ \$k = 31\$
