Title: Find the variable value in the equation

Grade: 7-a Lesson: S1-L3

Explanation: The best way to understand algebra is by looking at some examples. Take turns and read each example for easy understanding.

Examples:

1. Find the value of 'l' in \$3l + 4 = 7 − 2l\$.

Step 1a

Given equation is that, \$3l + 4 = 7 − 2l\$.

Explanation: Given equation is that, \$3l + 4 = 7 − 2l\$.

It is a linear equation with one variable in "l".

Step 1b

Move the like terms to one side.

Explanation: Move the like terms to one side of the equation and perform operations among them.

i.e, move constant terms to one side.

\$3l + 4 = 7 − 2l\$
⇒ \$3l + 2l = 7 − 4\$
⇒ \$5l = 3\$

Step 1c

Now, solve for "m"

Explanation: Divide both sides of the equation with 5.

⇒ \$5l = 3\$

⇒ \$(5l)/5 = 3/5\$

⇒ \$((cancel5^1)l)/cancel5^1 = 3/5\$

⇒ \$(5l)/1 = 3/5\$

⇒ \$l = 3/5\$
