Add digits in ones place value or from the right.

Then add the tens place value.

Explanation: 5, 1 is the tens place value. Add tens place value i.e, 5 + 1 = 6. Place the 6 under the tens place column.

Add the hundred place numbers.

Explanation: 9, 7 is the hundreds place value i.e, 9 + 7 = 16. Place the 6 under the hundreds place column and place the 1 above 1.

Finally the add the thousands place numbers, sum of 1940 + 690 will be 2630.
