Title: Addition

Grade: 3-a Lesson: S1-L7

Explanation: The best way to understand addition is by looking at some examples.Take turns and read each example for easy understanding.

Examples:

Step 1a

Add 840 and 140

  • Write the numbers one below the other as per the places of the digits.
    \$840 + 140\$

  • Add units place i.e.,0 + 0 = 0. So, write 0 in the one’s column.

1a

.

Explanation: Arrange the number according to their place values.
Start adding from the digits in ones place(0 + 0 = 0).Write 0 in the one’s column.

Step 1b

  • Add ten’s place i.e., 4 + 4 = 8.

  • Write 8 in the ten’s place.

1b

.

Explanation: Add the digits in the tens column i.e.,(4 + 4). Here the sum is 8.

Step 1c

  • Add hundred’s place i.e.,8 + 1 = 9.

  • Now there is no carryover and we can directly write 9 in the hundredth’s column.

Therefore, the sum of 840 + 140 = 940.

1c

.

Explanation: Now, add the digits in the hundred’s place, that is, 8 + 1 = 9.

Hence, 840 + 140 = 940.
