Title: Addition

Grade: 3-a Lesson: S1-L5

Explanation: The best way to understand addition is by looking at some examples.Take turns and read each example for easy understanding.

Examples:

Step 1a

Add 735 and 155

  • Write the numbers one below the other as per the places of the digits.
    \$ 735+ 155\$

  • Add units place i.e.,5 + 5 = 10.

  • Write 0 and carry 1 to the ten’s place.

1a

.

Explanation: Arrange the number according to their place values.
Start adding from the digits in ones place(5 + 5 = 10).
Write 0 and carry 1 to the ten’s place.

Step 1b

  • Add ten’s place including carrying 1. So, it will be 3 + 1 + 5 = 9.

  • Now there is no carryover and we can directly write 9 in the ten’s column.

1b

.

Explanation: Add the digits in the tens column i.e.,(5 + 1 + 3 = 9). Here the sum is 9.
We can directly write 9 in the ten’s column.

Step 1c

  • Add hundred’s place. So, it will be 7 + 1 = 8.

  • Now there is no carryover and we can directly write 8 in the hundredth’s column.

Therefore, the sum of 735 + 155 = 890.

1c

.

Explanation: Now, add the digits in the hundred’s place i.e., 7 + 1 = 8.

Hence, 735 + 155 = 890.
