Example

Title: Addition

Grade: 3-a Lesson: S1-L2

Explanation: The best way to understand addition is by looking at some examples.Take turns and read each example for easy understanding.

Examples:

Step 1a

Add 573 and 55

  • Write the numbers one below the other as per the places of the digits.
    \$573 + 55\$

  • Add units place i.e.,3 + 5 = 8.Write 8 in the one’s column.

1a

.

Explanation: Arrange the number according to their place values.
Start adding from the digits in ones place(3 + 5 = 8).
Now there is no carryover and we can directly write 8 in the one’s column.

Step 1b

  • Now add ten’s place.So,it will be 7 + 5 = 12.

  • Write 2 and carry 1 to the hundred’s place.

1b

.

Explanation: Add the digits in the tens column i.e.,(7 + 5). Here the sum is 12.
The tens digit of the sum, that is, 1, will be carried to the hundreds place.

Step 1c

  • Add hundred’s place including carrying 1. So, it will be 5 + 1 = 6.

  • Now there is no carryover and we can directly write 6 in the hundredth’s column.

Therefore, the sum of 573 + 55 = 628.

1c

.

Explanation: Now, add the digits in the hundred’s place along with the carryover digit 1, that is, 1 (carry-over)+ 5 = 6.

Hence, 573 + 55 = 628.
