ADD 550 and 40

Step 1a

ADD 550 + 40

Write the numbers one below the other. 1. Place the attention to their place values.

Explanation: Arrange the number according to their place values. Start adding from the digits in ones place( 0 + 0 = 0). Write 0 in one’s column.

Step 1b

Now add ten’s place. So, it will be 5 + 4 = 9. write 9 in tens column.

Explanation: Add the digits in the tens column i.e.,(5 + 4). Here the sum is 9. We can directly write 9 in the ten’s column."

Step 1c

Add hundred’s place. So, it will be 5 + 0 = 5.

Now there is no carryover and we can directly write 5 in the hundredth’s column.

Therefore, the sum of 550 + 40 = 590.
