Write the numbers below the other as per the places of the digits.

Start with the digits in ones place (5 + 7 = 12). Here the sum is 12.
The tens digit of the sum, that is, 1, will be carried to the preceding column.

So,write 2 and carry 1 to the ten’s column.

Step 1c

Add the digits in the tens column along with the carryover 1. This means, 1 (carry-over) + 6 + 1 = 8. Here the sum is 8.
Now we add hundredth’s place i.e., (1 + 0 = 1).

Therefore, 165 + 17 = 182.
