My Family

2

Most people grow up finding inspiration in famous figures, singers, billionaires, and more. However, this isn’t true for me. For as long as I can remember, my greatest inspiration has always been and always will be my family. My role models, teachers, and icons were the people who raised me. The people who nurtured me and shaped me into who I am today, from my beliefs to my morals. Laws define family as the people who share the same genetics as us, who have legal guardianship and bonds over us, or live within the same residence as us.

However, family is not limited to only this. To me, family means loyalty. It means always supporting one another, pushing one another to reach as far as they can reach, and it means culture, heritage, love, pride, and personal values. Ever since I was young, I used to look up to my parents. My family consists of my parents, who are two middle-class citizens that are a part of the first generation in their families to move to the United States, and my older sister, who grew up beside me. My parents struggled a lot to get to where they are today and to support my sister and me. I remember waking up at odd hours of the night to find my parents still awake and working on their computers at two or three in the morning. Throughout their lives, they have instilled in me the importance of hard work and education. My dad and mom have always instilled in me that education is the key to your future. Your choices and your work are the only things that determine where you will be in ten, twenty, or thirty years and the only thing that will stay constant in supporting you is yourself. They taught me to get to where I want to be and reach my goals. I should never be lazy and push myself constantly to learn more and do more. Besides my parents, I have an older sister who is only one year older than me. From here, I have probably realized the most. She was the one who taught me about competition and dedication. She made me accept that not everything will be as I wanted it to be and taught me how to adapt to any situation. When I was younger, I remember her holding onto my hand tightly before crossing a road, her dancing with me, and most of all, all the times I learned from her. Whether it be from her mistakes or the little pieces of advice, she would give me whenever I was stuck at a crossroads.

Always striving forward no matter the circumstance is what I learned from my sister. Life is all about paths, and the choices I have made in the past and the choices I will make in the future are a result of the people around me whom I call family.

My Dad

9

Ever since I was younger, my dad has always been a support to me.

He is someone I find myself looking up to more often than not, and I admire his struggles and strength. My father has taken on many roles of importance in my life. He is my friend, my teacher, my coach, and my idol. I adore our long conversations and our discussions on a variety of subjects. His "lessons" are ones I can never forget since they began several years ago. My father teaches me not just about subjects but about life, growth, dedication, and advances in our world. We speak of news, life lessons, and experiences, and I can proudly claim to love my father more than anyone in this world other than my mother and sister. He has made me grow and learn about all sorts of complexities. To pick up habits that were once his and to share jokes and laughs when a break is needed.

I find similarity and comfort in my dad and share everything in my life with him. He has always known how and when to motivate and inspire me.

My mother

My mother is by far my greatest inspiration in life.
