Definition: Indefinite Pronouns

An indefinite pronoun is one which refers generally, not specifically, to places or things.

Some indefinite pronouns are

  • always singular,

  • some are always plural, and

  • some may be either singular or plural.

Tip: Indefinite Pronouns

  • Singular indefinite pronouns: anybody, anyone, another, each, either, everybody, everyone, nobody, no one, neither, one, other, someone, somebody, everything, anything, something

  • Plural indefinite pronouns: many, both, few, several, others

  • Indefinite pronouns that may be either singular or plural: all, any, most, some, none
