Definition: Object Pronouns

An object pronoun is a pronoun used as an object.

It may be a direct object.

A direct object answers the question whom? or what? following an action verb.

Examples:

  • Coach Ramos encouraged him. [not he]

  • The coach helped others, and he advised them well. [not they]

Tip: Object Pronouns

  • In addition, use an object pronoun as the object of a preposition, such as after, at, between, for, to, and with.

  • Example-1: The coach glanced at us during the diving event. [not we]

  • Example-2: My classmates were cheering for me. [not I]
