Some regular verbs require spelling changes before adding "-ed" to form the past tense.

Tip: Standard rule:

  • To add "-ed" to a verb to make it past tense

  • Example: He kicked the ball into the goal. ( kick - kicked)

An irregular verb is any that doesn’t follow the standard rule of making a verb past tense.
