Explanation Answer

Problem

A circular garden with a diameter of 20 meters is surrounded by a walkway of width 2 meter. Find the area of the walkway (shaded part).

Formula used

\$"Area" = \pi \times r^2\$

Step - 1

The walkway is enclosed between a
smaller circle of radius = 20 meters and a
larger circle of radius = 22 meters

Step - 2

The area of the walkway = the area enclosed by the larger circle - the area enclosed by the smaller circle

Step - 3

Therefore, The area of the walkway = \$\pi \times 22 \times 22 - \pi \times 20 \times 20\$

⇒ \$484 \times \pi - 400 \times \pi = 84 \pi "square meters"\$

⇒ \$84 \ times (3.14) = 263.76\$

Step - 4

Hence, the area of the walkway is \$263.76 "square meters"\$
