Explanation Answer

Problem

The average of three students ages is 32 years. The ratio between first student age and second student age is 27:10. If the third is 2 more than the second. What is the sum of the first and second students age?

Formula used

\$"Average" = "sum of set of numbers" / "amount of numbers in set"\$

Step - 1

Let x be the number

Step - 2

Then, the age of first person = 27x

the age of second person = 10x

the age of third person = 10x + 2

Step - 3

By using formula, \$(27x + 10x + 10x + 2)/3 = 32\$

⇒\$47x + 2 = 32 \times 3\$

⇒\$47x + 2 = 96\$

⇒\$47x = 96-2 = 94\$

⇒\$x = 94/47 = 2\$

Step - 4

The sum first and second students age = 27x + 10x = 37x

⇒ \$37 \times 2 = 74\$

Step - 5

Therefore, the sum first and second students age is 74years
