Explanation Answer

Problem

The average of runs of a cricket player of 8 innings was 42. How many runs must he make in his next innings so as to increase his average of runs by 6 ?

Formula used

\$"Average" = "total runs" / "no.of innings"\$

Step - 1

total = Average x no.of innings

⇒ total = 42 x 8 = 336.

Step - 2

Now increase in avg = 6runs.

Step - 3

So, new avg = 42 + 6 = 48runs

Step - 4

Total runs = new avg x new no. of innings = 48 x 9 = 432

Step - 5

Runs made in the 9th inning = 432 - 336 = 96
