\$ d = a_2 - a_1 \$

Substitute the \$a_1 = 1 , a_2 = 5\$

\$d = 5 - 1 \$ = 4

Formula for \$n_(th)\$ number of series

\$ a_n = a_1 + (n-1)d \$

Substitute d = 4 , n = 47 we get

\$ a_47 = 1 + (47-1)4 \$

Simplify

\$ a_47 = 1 + (37)4 \$

\$ a_47 = 1 + 148 \$
